We have got off to a great start to the year with our annual School Picnic at memorial Park. The children from
Buzzing Two had a lovely time playing on the playground, skating on the skate park and swimming in the pool-although it was a bit cold! A big thank you to the parents who were able to help us with transport or were able to come and have lunch with us. As you can see we all had lots of fun despite the cool weather.
On Friday 5th August the whole school had a special remembrance assembly to express hope and peace to the people of Japan. Each class made paper cranes to commemorate the 1000 paper cranes that were made by a little 12 year old girl named Sudako many years ago. It was her way of showing that she hoped for a better world for everyone following the dropping of the Hiroshima Bomb in 1945. In Talented Two we had a busy time making lots of paper birds with bright coloured origami paper. Some wonderful buddies from Room Three and Room Six came to help us along with two lovely Mums and members of the Manawatu Japanese Society. Everyone worked so well together and it was a great experience for us all. The paper birds were strung up together and taken to the hall where they were displayed during our special assembly. A big thank you to everyone who helped Talented Two to make our share of the 1000 paper cranes. We hope that the Japanese people who were affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami will be able to rebuild their lives and find new hope.
In the last two weeks of term we had a focus on stories and books through our “Book Weeks.” The activities included “Reading Round The Rooms;” special visitors who came to read to each team in the library; a book mark competition; a dress up parade – where children wore a costume to school that related to a book/movie character. Then finally the whole school had an amazing session with story teller/ cartoonist Stu Duval on Friday, the last day of term. Here are some photos from “Book Weeks.”
Early this term we went with Funtastic Fourteen and Wise One, for a “Wonder Walk” to Milverton park. On the way we saw beautiful Autumn trees with red, yellow, brown and orange leaves. It was lots of fun playing on the playground and we had play lunch before we came back to school. Hope that you enjoy the imovie that was created for us by Claire.
TALENTED TWO NEWSLETTER APRIL 2011
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
With the end of term one approaching fast, I woud like to extend my thanks to you all for your continued support of your child’s learning at school. Starting School is a big milestone in any child’s life and over all, the children have made pleasing progress in social, physical and academic areas this term and that couldn’t have happened without your co-operation.
A special Welcome to Vanessa, Haris, Riley, Ella and Emily who have joined our circle of friends recently. Talking about friends, if you would like your contact details to be available to other Talented Two families, so that the children can meet up for play dates etc. then fill out the form below and return it to school as soon as possible. Thank you.
We have been extremely fortunate to have Miss Russell helping us as a volunteer Teacher Aide in the classroom, while she was waiting for her work visa to be granted. This has now come through and she has opportunities for paid work which is great for her but means we won’t see so much of her friendly smile in Talented Two. Miss Russell has supported the children and myself in the classroom in many ways and we really appreciate her skills and generosity.
Classroom news and events etc. are featured on our class blog, which is now up and running. Enjoy reading and viewing the blog with your child. Just click onto the following links and you’re in for a treat!

Please return any readers or library books that you may have found at home- it’s never too late to do so!
Whatever the weather may be-have a lovely holiday and make the most of the opportunities offered by our wonderful Palmerston North City Library. It’s always a great place to go with your family!
Bye for now and see you back next term ready for more fun learning!
Yours sincerely,
Ann-Marie Boyd.
Today we had a concert at school from a wonderful musician called Eddie Quansah. He played many African instruments including various types of drums, a finger piano and a hand carved flute. Eddie asked the children to put up their hands if they wanted to come and play the drums and some of the children from Talented Two were chosen to have a turn! Eddie had us all singing and dancing at the end of the concert, as he taught us an African song. Thank you Eddie!
We just love reading and re-reading the story about a little boy called David, who gets into plenty of trouble! Our buddies from ” Supreme Seven,” helped us to record the story. Happy viewing!
“Sneaky Driveways”
Last week we had a visit from Constable Emily and Constable Sue, who reminded us to look out for “Sneaky Driveways” when we are walking on the footpath. We went out onto the footpath to see if we could find any “Sneaky Driveways” that had a big fence in front of them or had bushes or trees up in front of them. When we saw a “Sneaky Driveway” we STOPPED and looked UP the driveway and then DOWN the driveway to make sure it was SAFE to walk past. We all had a turn at stopping and looking for cars up and down the “Sneaky Driveways”. We know how to keep safe when we are walking on the footpath.
